Economy and the environment

Environmental economy is mainly concerned with the relationship between the economic system and the environment and strives to find ways that would lead to economic development with the least possible environmental impact.

Two aspects are used here:

  • The macroeconomic aspect follows impacts on the national economy by environmental protection in relation to instruments used by environmental policy, including not only administrative, but also economic instruments such as charges, fines, environmental taxes, subsidies and other aid.
  • The microeconomic aspect follows the impact of environmental protection on the economies of specific entities. Solutions promoting businesses’ efforts to integrate environmental aspects into their management systems are sought.
